Carbon budget

The Carbon Budget, or Budget of CO₂, indicates the amount of Greenhouse gas that humanity 'is authorized' to emit into the atmosphere to achieve the 1.5 ºC goal of the Paris Agreement. According to the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change, with current emissions this budget will be exhausted by the beginning of 2028, while for the 2.0 ºC objective we still have until the end of 2045.

In practice, the Carbon Budget represents the amount of CO₂ that we can still emit to be able to contain the rise in global temperature (yes, that the temperature will rise is a fact!) within 1.5 ºC or 2 ºC.
