Guarantees of origin

Una guarantee of origin (GO) is a title that guarantees the origin of electricity from renewable sources. It is presented in electronic form and is issued by IGO qualified plants, i.e. plants certified as producers of electricity from renewable sources.
For every MWh of energy introduced into the grid by these, a GO title by the Energy Services Manager (GSE), in accordance with Directive 2009/28/EC.

Getting GO, it is possible to make your energy consumed “green energy”, even without any technical changes. Basically, the energy consumed is always the same, but GO guarantees that the exact same amount of energy is produced in another area, but from renewable sources. The purpose is to lower the level of CO₂ emissions and for this reason, it is independent of where the energy is produced.

When a company buys green electricity guaranteed by GO, in reality it continues to draw from the grid the same electricity that, in Italy, will be generated for more than 60% from fossil fuels and imported nuclear power. However, GO guarantees that somewhere else on the continent someone has produced an identical amount of green energy.

Le Types of GO negotiable at the headquarters for the contracting of guarantees of origin prepared by the GME (Energy Market Manager) refer to the following renewable energy sources:

- Hydroelectric;

- Wind power;

- solar;

- geothermal;

- other renewable sources.
